Foreigners can legally purchase real estate in Spain.
If you reside in Spain for more than 183 days a year, the most important document you will need is the N.I.E. (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) residence number. You can also get a non-resident NIE if you do not reside in Spain, but still want to buy real estate.
The independent search for real estate can take anywhere from 3 months to a year. The actual purchase process usually takes an additional 2-3 months. If you carefully plan the entire process in advance, you can become the owner of Spanish real estate sooner rather than later.
